Beyond Digital Health Manchester 2011

Beyond Digital Health Manchester 2011, held on 13 and 14 December 2011 at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, brought together businesses across ICT, healthcare, creative industries and the biomedical sector to explore new opportunities in assisted living, mHealth, eHealth, personalised care, remote diagnostics and a host of Internet of Things related activity. With NHS budgets falling and demographic pressures on services increasing, solutions that could potentially transform the delivery of healthcare whilst keeping budgets in balance are critical to our personal and economic health. Beyond Digital Health Manchester 2011 examined these technologies from the perspective of businesses, investors, policy makers and service providers, emphasising the potential for collaboration between businesses and researchers and across sectors. Keynotes from Gus Desbarats of The Alloy and Kevin Dean of Cisco highlighted the role of patients and the importance of design in making these technologies ‘user friendly’. The event was fully funded by the European Regional Development Fund, with the support of MIDAS. The event format was developed by The Fifth Sector in partnership with Bionow.
